Posted by steve -- ind on 10/14/2004, 7:16 am San Diego, October 12, 2004 To celebrate the launch of Liquid Ice Wraps to the American equine market, EquiTech founders Sabine Soddemann and Tracee Mulvaney sponsored their first annual Liquid Ice Women's Polo Classic last weekend under picture perfect blue skies and a fresh breeze from the ocean at the San Diego Polo Club in Rancho Santa Fe. The polo club's manager, Graham Bray, organized women polo players from across the US, and with the help of EquiTech put together one of the most prestigious and fun women's polo events. Four teams of great women polo players competed at two different levels over the two-day event. The first match started out on Saturday with a strong showing by the Gladiator Girls Roxi Keyfauver, Laura Handley, Jane Anderson and Sabine Soddemann challenging the impressive opposing team Princeps Holdings joined by players Jessica Bailey, Susan Harris, Colleen Wilson and Alisha Gerard. The crowd enjoyed exiting, fast paced polo in the A Flight level, with a battle of the Hanalei Bay team represented by Jessica Bailey, Kate Webber, Lisa Bosstick and Krista Hawley (Krista Hawley coming all the way from Kauai to join in the festivities) against Liquid Ice with Roxy Keyfauver, Jocelyn Parker, Lillian Heller and Tracee Mulvaney. A wonderful party sponsored and hosted by EquiTech Liquid Ice Wraps at the Club House, on Saturday, followed outstanding polo playing by all. Sunday's finale was a fitting example of great women polo players at the top of their game. Princeps Holding team bounced back in the 2nd chukker with a solid effort led by Jessica Bailey and a breakaway by Colleen Wilson. With strong hitting from all four players, the Gladiator Girls maintained their lead and won the match 11 to 9. Everyone was on the edge of their seats for a hard-battled match when Hanalei Bay made a strong comeback against Liquid Ice. Roxy's hard defensive riding and skill with the ball secured and early lead for Liquid Ice, but Kate answered with several picture- perfect penalty shot conversions. The competition was fierce; each team displaying their best polo with beautiful hitting combined with incredible fast, clean polo, ending with a resounding comeback by Hanalei Bay. MVP was awarded to Kate Weber, and the Best Horse award went to Elaina, owned by Ron Bonaguidi, owner of Hanalei Bay polo club in Kauai. The event concluded with beautiful trophies donated by EquiTech followed by strawberries, chocolate and champagne to toast a wonderful time.
