Posted by steve Today was another great day. We started out with taking the ferry to see the Statue of Liberty. We couldnt go to the top of the statue because of the Sept. 11 events. The boat also stopped by Ellis Island. Our next adventure was to visit ground zero. They did not allow us to take pictures up close from one of the walkways. We did get pictures from the road and inside the walkway. It is an unbelievable sight. The damage that is still on the buildings is tremendous. Boy did we see lots of firemen and police. There are several places that they have paid tribute to the people that have lost their lives and that are or have given help. They left part of the fallen buildings steel beams in a cross as a memorial symbol. We saw a Fire Department patch from Escondido. Grandma got a New York Fire Department patch from a fireman after sweet talking him into letting us take his picture and telling him how proud we are of all the workers. There is tons of construction going on and through all the hustle and bustle, the people are very friendly. We then visited Austins and Breannas choice, FAO Schwartz, the largest toy store. There were 3 stories and lots and lots of toys. Danika asked for a cowgirl Barbie to stump them and found out that 'Rodeo Chick Barbie' will be out soon. On the way to FAO Schwartz, we were driving next to Riddick Bowes motor home. Sandy tried to make friends with the driver to get his autograph, but he was not the bus. Take a look at the picture from the back of the motor home. Danika, mom, Adam, Jared and I stopped by the Empire State building. What a view, almost 100 stories up, and you could look down on the world, it was amazing! We had another long day, and will go to bed a little bit earlier tonight. Tomorrow we travel to Connecticut. No more vacation, Time To Play. We will send more pictures from NY tomorrow with anything new that comes up along the way! Shane and Sherry
