A great tournament played in an outdoor arena with rain Thursday night & Friday morning Thanks to the super job done by John Westley play was started at 12 noon instead of 9 AM as scheduled. 6 minute chukkers were played, 3 games and a round robin completed by 5:30 followed by a Hamburger & Hot Dog BBQ hosted by the defending Eldorado Western Regional Championship Team and drinks by Empire Polo Team – plus full arena foot mallet polo until dark chased everyone home Ten (10) Games (with 3 being round robins) were played with players from 6th grade to seniors and the level of competition and sportsmanship was outstanding. Great umpiring by Billy Sheldon and Brett Vinson. Referee and Horse Manager Wilbur O’Ferrall was kept busy with all the horse strings. Lynn Thompson & Nancy Kirchoffer did an outstanding job of timing and record keeping. Thank you to the Santa Barbara Polo Training Center, Doug Reeder, President, Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club, Bill Meeker, John Westley and the Nine Polo Teams for all their hard work. Special thanks to Central, Eldorado, Empire, Lakeside, Poway, Santa Barbara & Thacher for bringing ten strings of horses. You made it happen. Great prize packages donated by La Martina and Eques Ltd. were given to winners and award recipients. Congratulations to all and good luck to Eldorado at the National Championship, hosted by Brushy Creek Ranch. Nor Cal should get serious consideration as a wild card team, they are good.
