As the focus on pattern increasingly recedes, there are more koi displayed with refined skin and pigment, but bearing un-refined pattern. SFF's Kohaku GCs in the All Japan stand out as exceptional in having classic refined patterns. In most instances, it seems to me that breeders have much to do in continuing to advance the overall quality and gain clean, classic pattern.
