right. so there are really three things going on;
1) the intact nature of the waste material with gravity being a much more gentle transfer. straining causing content and fines to be released into circulation.
OK, this is where the disconnect begins I think. The majority of solids are still gravity fed and seperated on the system as I described. The difference now is your "fines" go back to the pond to continue to decay and build while mine get trapped for removal.
2) the temperature and bacteria count dtermining the rate of breakdown and additional ammonia production resulting in HIGHER nitrAte levels over time.
The temp is the same and the bacterial count is insignificantly different and thus no higher a Nitrate level
3) the easy of a sump flush vs backwashing of a BB ( d's point of "if it's easy you do the maintenance and if it's an ordeal you tend to put it off). Sumps flushed daily or put on a timer that dumps the 'heavy water' in the lower 1/3 of the sump with an auto refill taking care of the level automatically. Or a semi open trickle tp replace flushed water.
The settlement is still dumped just as often in yours verses my system, withthe same amount of solids. The only difference are the fines left to recirc back to the pond in yours verses being trapped and flushed in the system I described.
The views presented are those of mine alone unless otherwise specified.
