My experience with filters is that the ease of cleaning is closely linked to the number of times that it will be cleaned. Especially after the first year.
Usually the first year a system has been installed, the pond owner is pretty good at cleaning filters etc.
But after that first year, especially if it takes time or you get wet or smelly cleaning pads etc, the pond owner will not clean them regularly, and sometimes not at all. They procrastinate.
So when discussing a filtering system, ease of cleaning is a major point in the selection of the filter.
And that is why the presurized filters have become so popular, they are pretty easy to clean.
With bead media, the biofilm is pretty easily damaged. With other media, not so much so, even after using the blowers for quite a while. Yes, you will wash a lot out, but a lot still remains.
