JR, it doesn't bother me at all, I chose a bead filter system because of space constraints, I am happy with it and have never experienced some of the problems you have mentioned.I change out a thousand gallons a week and back wash my two filers then, it takes about 15 minutes. The only suggestion I would add to anyone thinking about using a bead filter, is to buy one twice the size the manufactures reccommend. I use a couple of bandaids, two UV lights and Koizyme(or whatever they're are calling it now). IMHO bakki showers work, my koi never were willing to eat when the water temps reached 85 degrees, but now they just as ravenous as they are at 72 degrees. These are just my personal experiences over the last twelve years, I wouldn't change anything.
best regards,
Harry
