First JR says: "On of the more high profile debates took place at a koi wholesale/retail facility In my area, in which the installer put in a dozen at-the-time state of the art BBs. It was a text book illustration of what can go wrong with BBs when installed as stand alones."
Then JR says:"So Harry, One does not need to know the brand name or decal on the container, the shape of the beads or the bouyance of the beads- the issues are all the same, regardless."
On the first part, Let's be clear the "BB" stands for Bubble Bead filter which is a trademarked name of ONE filter. So all Bead filters are not BB filters.
Secondly, I want to know if all the info you have tried to pass along the last couple of day's about bead filters is ALL based on the assumption that they are stand alone filters?
If so then I would agree with most of it.
However, today's hobbyist is much smarter than you think and do use some kind of pre-filter be it a sieve or a SC.
On the second part I could not disagree more. It is very important to know the all the above information. When you say things like this it is misleading. There are new designs coming out all the time. So you cannot sit back and say "10 years ago they sucked so they still do today!". Look at the car industry, last year that truck was horrible but this year it's the best around.
Plus there are way too many variables in each ponds case to make a blanket statement and say that they don't work.
I'm not a bead filter salesman and I don't care who has one or doesn't but this way of thinking is closed minded and in my view can be dangerous. Case in point: It doesn't take $400-500 dollars a month to run 8 Sequence pumps. It's OK to not be up on the latest things it's just not OK to give advise like you are.
