I at first thought martin's post of electric use a bit off, especially since one of my goals when selling pumps is not only the initial cost, but the cost of leaving it running. After all, what good is a pump on a pond if you cant afford to let it run.
I ran the most efficient pump specs through the calculator, and he is really not off that much.
If you had the 1/8 HP pump, it uses 160 watts an hour. With the cost here of .08 cents a KWH, that comes to 9.22 a month, times 8 pumps the total cost to run 24/7 is $73.76.
Now, that is assuming that he did not have another pump running. I finally convinced a guy here that had a pond installer put in a swimming pool pump to put in a pond pump. The net decline in the electric bill for that one pump was around $90. So he gets the same flow, but for $90 bucks a month less, and after about 4-5 months the new pump is paid for, and the saving go to buying new fish.
