I would modify this thought. I am speaking of a pond that has clear water at first look. It would need to be be more green than generally desired to provide much protection from too much sun. However, the unicellular algae will reproduce more quickly in periods of intense sun and heat, so some benefit in sun protection may occur. In a climate where high water temperatures interfere with the efficiency of the nitrifier community, the unicellular algae will fill the gap, giving an increase in protection from accompanying intense sun.
