I think your observations are good (even your "perception" of this forum ).

I think this exercise is a good example of not only "how" but "why" we perceive the way we do, and the transient nature of those perceptions.

In this group the Showa does capture my attention because of the boldness it displays, but the Sanke and Goromo pull at me more and for completely different reasons. The Sanke says "buy me, show me, I'll still look great when I come home". The Goromo on the other hand draws me in from a desire to see how it matures and finishes. Both valid appeals but for drastically different parts of my personality.

What appeals to us isn't just a matter of growing in our appreciation for higher levels of quality, but what our immediate and long term goals may be for a particular Koi or variety. Those things can change apart from "quality appreciation" points.

As to reading the minds of your customers... good luck with that. That makes for a lot of synapses to link up with. Maybe someone will come up with personal GPS tracking with an ESP button...
