Not a problem James. Koi are big storers of lipids and glycogen. Being fish that prepare for stasis in winter, they tend to utilize the stores in the fasting seasons. No draining of the swamp over years results in liver disease and often tumors in the older females. It is hard to fool them as their cues come from light as well as temperature. So even heated fish have an endocrine based hormonal cascading of triggers that encourages them to store. So no fasting is a major contributor to internal organ diseases.
This is even seen in tropicals who experience no stasis. Rich diets and not much of a demand on the system causes them to store materials that in mammals would be a layer of fat- in fish it is fatty liver syndrome. - JR
