Hi we all know that Dropsy is just a description of a sick fish with a certain characteristic appearance- usually resulting in death.
There are *probably* far too many reasons for the appearance of dropsy,and limited laboratory facilities to diagnose the original underlying reason for dropsy syndrome.

D, you mention on PM that all the fish had decaying atrophied organs. Do you think this was coincidence,or have you seen this in fish with out the dropsy appearance?

Renal failure can be insidious and as you say by the time health issues appear its probably too late.
If the kidneys have ceased to function. the systemic issues caused by this problem alone are imponderable and spell certain death,especially in a hobby situation.

Its doubtful in my opinion that koi food sticks have any major part to play in the death of a fish with pine cone appearance. BUT you would need to find out if melamine has the same detrimental effect on a koi...if it does then you may be on to something..always with an open mind on Koi maters.....
