Hi,
This is very interesting.
I posted some time ago asking if anyone found a link between koi food and dropsy like symptoms in koi.
One of the symptoms of dropsy is kidney failure. Yes. But one of the symptoms of melamine poisoning is also kidney failure.
A number of years ago there was a scandal because it was found that melamine was being used in pet foods.
Melamine is a plastic used to make kitchen tops.
Recently melamine was use to spike baby milk products in China. Many babies died and many thousands became gravel ill.
Melamine falsifies the tests on the protein content of the food. It gives a false - higher - test result.
IF melamine was used in one of the ingredients of a koi food it COULD produce dropsy like symptoms.
When I did further research I found that melamine was commonly used in fish feeds in China for many years. It was common knowledge!
It is possible that an ingredient can be produced in China and shipped to another country for inclusion in a fish feed produced there.
Do you have a lab that can test for melamine in feeds in your country?
What is the country of origin of the food you are talking about?
Regards,
Chris
