Yes, 'tiny' and 'remote' really are key here. In-breeding and the layering of genes is a key factor in the creation of Nishikigoi,... which can't be overlooked. This in-breeding was more from conditions and situations, rather than purposely, BUT the results brought us to where we are now.
Close breeding - brother to sister, mother to son, father to daughter over and over again causes odd and magical layerings,... which produced a lot of the 'types' of Koi we have now,... quite accidentally. 'Tiny and remote' set the stage for this.
