I rather like this reflective mood of yours, today, James.
I guess in many countries, especially the far East and Africa, you can remove a thin veneer of modernity, and you are right back in countless earlier generations of culture, particularly
agriculture, and you can access this easily by travel.
The cultural traditions of China and Japan are both linked and similar. However, they are also different enough to result in China not producing highly developed ornamental carp, unlike Japan which did, to our everlasting delight.
Japan is also famous for its bonsai, Japanese gardens (which are different from the Chinese), and flower arranging; all of which can be defined as living art. When you think about it all, koi were kind of inevitable in Japan?
