All,
A few months ago i vowed not to post again because this is THE most unwelcoming board but the topic of how we perceive is probably very relevant.
I have selected koi all over Japan and the rest of the world for over 25 years and as the years pass have always without fault tried to improve my selection process in the belief that that is what my customer wants, How i perceive this is very much open to debate....
If the koi did not sell well then do i blame myself or my customers ability to appreciate good koi or what they perceive to be good koi...compared to what ???
On a recent trip to Ogata Koi Farm i was observing Manabu grading his 2 year Harvest, into no less than five categories.The following day myself and one other friend were given free range over the whole farm to select through every pond.I had to select what i perceived my customers would buy and try not to select what i knew were better koi.Where does the dealer draw the line ? I questioned Manabu in the evening, over another exceptional Japanese fillet stake on his selection process and whether it involved any perception of what he thought his customers would buy or pay for his stock.His first reaction was a pause with an upward glance then a slight intake of breath. this is commonly misinterpreted as a method of doubleing the cost but not applicable in this case...!
He replied in good English "size,body shape,all conformity,pattern,AND FINALLY, Will Dave buy it!!!!!
Perception personified from one of japans most successful breeders in our times. 
I would be very interested in your perception of these beautiful Koi
Maybe perceived price,origin,quality would cause a considerable discussion or is my perception totally wrong....???
