Much differently!
The fish I own are fish I picked because they 'captured' me. So I enjoy them more than assess them. The face, the shape, the movement, the body line and condition 'now' vs condition 'then' are more important.
This is, by the way , THE single best reason WHY hobbyists should show their favorite fish.It is a very profound moment when you place that fish you are used to seeing against strangers' fish. It changes your perspective in an instant ( both good and bad) so that your eye for koi becomes more discriminating. It is the first step in truely understanding the art of koi appreciation.
