Some very interesing theories being bantered around among the Big Boy's in world health organizations , today. This swine flu is of course, a 'new' virus that is made up of Tama/bird/swine RNA/DNA that have not, until now, existed in the wild. As this new form 'jumps' species, the death rate seem very high per infected human population. But , as the theory goes, as the virus duplicates and spreads to it's new species host ( humans) it looses some of it's potency from infected individual to infected indiviudal. So that here in the USA we see infection but a low death ratio ( zero), but in Mexico ( Veracruz local village conatining pig farm), ground zero for the 'leap' we see a very high death rate ( 400 people dead).
This is of course very different than our KHV problem. But still, the evidence of lower death rates among the infected as compared to the early years ( early 1990s) is very curious. This calls for more research in this area. Is natural immunity increasing in koi? Are survivors becoming less and less carriers due to their own immune system? Are the percentage of survivors in the carrier stage declining against the overall survivor population numbers? JR
