JR, your comments about earlier versions of koi being nothing like modern version is so important. So much so that if we saw some of these earlier version today we would likely not recognize them. Actually, if you help a koi breeder doing initial culls on something like sanke or showa you will see an amazing assortment of genetics in the fish that are culled. These throwbacks are interesting from a historical perspective but really just a soup of junk genes that give a glimpse of the past.
