Actually being an idiot savant who knows many things about only two subjects- fish and finance, I'm a keen fan of economics and our wabbly dollar!

It IS getting serious. In the last year we have printed more dollars and are in the process of selling more T bills than ever before in the history of this country. In fact, if you look at a graph of $$$$ borrowed by banks from the government, you will see that the spike leaves the graph unless you blow up the graph ten times! And the ' EKG like lines' of the graph from 1929 to 2007 becomes an almost flatline to the human eye when you attach the 2008 spike. This will lead to hyper Inflation. The Feds are confident that they know how to pull inflation back down when it happens. Afterall, Obama has Volker, the guy who did it once before. But wait--- when he did it last time, he was a lucky son of a gun , in that, there was not a lot of paper and debt out there at the time. This time there is a ton of debt and money out there,more than a 10,000 X's more. This means that he can not ramp up rates to 21% like last time as he will bankrupt the treasury who carries all this debt and it's cash flow interest expense, and also the consumer who have nothing but variable debt in credit cards and home equity loans. Can you say "Check mate?". If not then how about " I've fallen down aand I can't get up!"
All of this means the dollar will become weaker and weaker. And heaven forbid the Chinese stop buying T bills and bonds at a near zero rate of return. Or soon realize that treasury rates MUST rise to entice more buying, and they decide to sell what they already have! It's getting harder to sleep well at night- think I'll go look at my fish---- calm blue ocean, calm blue ocean, calm blue ocean--- JR
