JR, if you are thinking club membership defines the hobby, I disagree. In the so-called 'golden age' clubs had a near monopoly on knowledge. That is no longer true. There is a risk that declining clubs results in lesser shows, which are central to the hobby and continued improvement of nishikigoi. But, as long as there are hobbyists interested in showing, there will be folks ready to volunteer to put on shows. It may be that dealers have to put on the shows, but they already underwrite the expense in many countries. Things change. Some folks would like to go back to the days of airline regulation... flying was never so easy, service so good, etc.... and so expensive Greyhound Bus Lines was actually profitable! The 'good ole days' were seldom very good... just nostalgically pleasant on the brain.
