Are you measuring this by exhibit numbers and attendance? as over the last ten years I've seen some improvements in the quality of the top exhibits.

The point about easy access to a mass of information leads me to also wonder if a downside to this some new hobbyists consider very early on their limiting factors and the financial cost of acquiring/achieving the infrastructure and the fish for top-end results, and so kick it into touch before they've really begun.
