I had mentioned in that thread below that carp are omnivores. That of course is just a name. And often we apply these names based on what an animal prefers to eat for it's energy source. But the truth is, for a species to be called a carnivore or herbivore or omnivore several other 'tests' must be taken to come up with a solid dietary orientation. More reliable than feeding preference is anatomy. Mouth shape and size, teeth sharp, placement and distribution/location of those pointed or flat teeth and details of the digestive track itself ( stomach- or no stomach, stomach size, gut length, enzymes present). All these things add up to a conclusion.
Carp are also scavangers and work the soil of their natural habitat ( or transplanted habitat as an invasive species). Their ability to use both animal proteins fresh or degraded as well as plant materials (also degraded or live/fresh) is what has made them a true omnivore.
Here is an interesting video of feral domestic carp in England ( all carp in England's water ways are feral as carp has not naturally developed in the Bristish Isles ( Danube river transplants centuries ago).
