I love your pictures......
Very difficult to work with fry from the beginning and hope for one that will "turn out."
Even from a spawning of the very best parent stock, the amount of fry developing into "koi" is very small. With a breed like sanke or showa, less than one in five hundred will make even a low grade koi.
The problem with working with small numbers of fry (hundreds instead of hundreds of thousands) is that you have what amounts to lotto tickets. Most will be worthless after the drawing. Only the precious few, the one in ten thousand, are worth anything at all. To get that one, to be fairly sure of getting it, you need to raise a hundred thousand fry big enough to identify it. In effect, buying all the lotto combinations to be sure and have the right one.
Still, there is much to learn from following any of the fry as you've done. It is a huge undertaking, one which we can all benefit from.
