Mark is in the unique position to document this situation. It will be an interesting event to follow.
Years ago in an experiment to determine if breeding tancho to tancho would increase the tancho component of the offspring I tried breeding tancho sanke to tancho sanke.
I learned a few things....first and foremost, the amount of tanchos in the offspring was greatly increased. But, the overall yeild of marketable koi (miserable under the best of circumstances for sanke) was greatly reduced. This being because so many poor tanchos, and sanke-like koi with weak hi patterns among what would normally be considered "keepers."
A few good tanchos resulted, precious few, and not enough for me to want to repeat the experiment.
I think tancho are so popular because its easy for folks to say the name and identify the breed.
Brett
