Thanks for that truly interesting post. The more I learn about about the genetic background to koi variation (especially pigmentation) the more fascinating these animals become.
Taking on your points a) and b), it would suggest to me that use of tancho kohaku parents would result in the expression of the recessive gene in sufficient numbers, given the vast numbers of fry, to make that parent selection viable (always supposing that tanchos were the objective, of course). Obviously one would not expect a high proportion of the spawning to be tancho however. I would still like to know what proportion might result?
