Lots of re-packaging goes on, and usually at a pretty hefty markup!
The drilling mud choice would be great for a mud pond, but it is primarily Sodium Bentonite as the water absorption/gelling property is of primary concern for that purpose. My personal preference in a sealed pond would be Calcium Bentonite, as it has the same capacity as an adsorbent of contaminants and a flocking agent, but clears much more readily from the water column via normal filtration without worries about clogging up the plumbing with goo...
