I dropped Gene @ Koivillage a line to see if he might give some feedback on this as he has done a great deal of research on it. Hopefully he'll chime in.
In the meanwhile, I don't know about the mixture you originally posted because having all of the right mineral ingredients doesn't necessarily mean they are bonded on a molecular level in a useful fashion for water treatment.
It is also used as Fullers Earth and Pottery Clay in addition to water filtration, flocculation, make-up, and as already mentioned mold making for various castings.
