I went with three trays and I lined the media
lengthwise in the trays with 1/2 inch spacing and added the next rows same spacing 180 degrees from the first and finished with the third row
similar to the first. I didn't like it just jumbled in and if I went any higher I got a lot of splater which I wanted to avoid.This will be the 4th year running and i like it a lot. I use it in my wintering inside pond (very small) and it's amazing I bget the results i do with growth
and just good conditioning. The BH is helped along with 3-250 gallon vortexes highly oxygenated with japanese mat and a 10 % water exgange 24/7.
