The vitamin E "antioxidant" craze has pretty well run its course these days and topical use on creatures great and small has pretty much been de-bunked, although some still swear to its efficacy. (I rather prefer plain old olive oil myself...)
I don't have access to any Koi plagued with hikkui or I would try the vitamin A myself just to see. I became aware of its use in combating viral warts a number of years ago when my son suddenly had 13 on 1 foot. Part of the prescribed treatment included 20,000 IU Vitamin A daily, which is an abnormally high dosage. According to our physician Vitamin A is toxic to the particular virus involved and speeds the healing time. Since it is readily available in gel caps (similar to vitamin E only smaller) it would seem rather easy to incorporate into a dental paste or similar application method.
