Posted by Gibbo on 10/23/2007, 9:31 am Driving around for the past week or so, although the repairs are major, and the masses of concrete used to secure the mountains that have been pictured on several occasions, are now in some cases completely hidden by new growth of grass and trees, the impact is still evident. Just got back to my room having again been watching the "celebrations" in Nagaoka City Centre, including fireworks, singers and speeches, as it has done for the past three years. Although not as major as 2005 it is still a significant display. It never ceases to amaze me how the Japanese people seem able to remeber such an important and tragic event in such a positive way. Just thought it was worth taking a moment to spare a thought .... Steve

As I am sure most of you will remember it is 3 years ago today that the devasting earthquake impacted Nagaoka and its surrounding area.
