An os install will not overwrite your patches, it only happens when you do the factory preset, so don't do that after the os even though they recommend it.
Patches onto the computer. It's called bulk dump. I can remember it by heart but look in the manual for dumping, I think it's in the utility menu, next to factory preset. Remember to have the sequencer running at low BPM, around 20.
A memorycard might be a better idea, but you have to find a 4 MB card. Look through the topics on the page, I think someone found a place where they sell them for around £20.
