Posted by Rocky Robinson I took my 305 into a local Guitar Center and had them ship it out...Could be weeks before I hear about it again. Kinda bummed about that. And, IMHO, looking at their display room, NOTHING had the capabilites the JX-305 had for the $$.![]()

It's definately not a bug that "fixes itself."
I don't know what technically was causing the problem, but there is definatley a problem in my synth. When the unit works great for a period of years suddenly gets crashy on you, forcing a re-install of the OS, only to crash again--That's not just a "glitch," it's a problem.
I don't know if it's an internal battery type of thing, or just a chip component that went wacky after a certain amount of time...If a number keyboards experience this within a certain time period, it looks kinda funny to me.
It would be nice if Roland just says, oops, that version of the 305 had faulty parts in it, we'll fix it for ya for nothin'. And if they can do it for under $100, it'd certainly be worth it.
In the age of synths with touch screens and workstations costing over $2K, the JX-305 is a great little unit for the money...Simple...effective...Sometimes I prefer to fire it up without using a PC sequencer...No mouse to futz with. And it's even a nice controller when I do sequence with the PC.
I did like the KORG MicroKORG (cute!), and the Roland SH-32 (cool)...They both look like future buys to me. But nothing had that simple "groovebox WITH a keyboard" controller thing going on...Unless you buy a seprate keyboard and a groove box, or just a more expensive workstation synth.
