Posted by Richard Connema Those two classy singers Marin Mazzie and Jason Danieley wowed a full house at The Osher Marin Jewish Center in San Rafael last night. Before the night was over these two amazing Broadway singers had the audience in the palm of their hands. For 90 minutes they captivated the folks with musical arranger David Loud at the piano. Mr. Loud was the orchestra conductor of the New York production of Ragtime for two years. Marin Mazzie came strolling out onto the stage dressed in black pants and a black blouse. She went into a rendition of Rudolf Frimls Indian Love Call and suddenly we saw and heard Jason Danieley returning the call from the back of the center. Their voices resonated though out the large auditorium. This was a great start for an evening of sublime entertainment. Both went immediately into a special arrangement by David Loud where the duo sang parts of 20 Broadway songs in 10 minutes. Songs included Cole Porter, Irving Berlin classics and even Why Did I Ever Leave Ohio from the current revival of Wonderful Town. Both were radiating warmth to the audience. They segue into each of the songs perfectly. Marin and Jason got a long applause after this arrangement. Marin told the audience that she was happy to be in Marin since she sees her name everywhere. Jason replied he even saw her name on Marin Fish and Bait Company and Marin Auto Parts. They then went into a charming duet of Honeysuckle Rose which displayed great harmony on their parts. They were terrific in a special arrangement of Cole Porterss Birds Do It, Lets Fall in Love with special lyrics involving flying creatures, marine life and mammals for each segments of the song. Marin took center spot with a lovely solo of Im Going to Love You Come Rain or Come Shine and later joined by Jason toward the end of the touching song. They went immediately into Stormy Weather and That Old Black Magic. Jason and Marin announced that there would now sing three no so familiar songs by some rising Broadway composers. They called the three Contemporary Relations These included Schottenfields I Want to Be a Lover song in a comic style by Jason, Scott Beirkell and Paul Lesials Youre a Mess song by Marin and completed the trio of songs with the same composers Natural Order of Things in a beautiful duet. Marin wowed the audience with Ring Them Bells with Jason in the background ringing bells. Jason came center stage to sing the gorgeous arrangement of Maria from West Side Story. He was elated from the euphoric introduction to a sympathetic prayer at the end of the song. Marin then came out to join her husband in the duet Tonight. The duet then did a change of pace with the comic song Nellie the Nudists Queen and then Marin became serious with the solo I Got Lost in His Arms. Jason followed with I Wont Send Roses from Mack and Mabel. There was another series of songs starting with Simple Melody with several additional Irving Berlins songs to follow. One of the great highlights occurred at the end of the program which was the Sondhiems collection that consisted of five songs to tell of a relationship. Songs included Happiness from Passion, Good Thing Going, Too Many Mornings, Not a Day Goes By and it ended with Move On. Their encore was Abba Daba Honeymoon. The crowd loved them. Both were in the lobby to great the patrons and both were charming. Jason remembered my review of their New Years Day show that is still on Past Columns of the regional section. Both are going to Los Angeles from here for the pilot season in hopes of getting a television show either with or separate from each other. They will be there for several months. .
