Re: 4.0 into a FC150?
You will need to find a automatic transmission or you will be shifting from the rear bed. Or you need to find a remote type shifter.
I checked it out and in a 170 it is tight, maybe too tight for a 150. Check out the xfer case drop. You have a pass side on the 150 and a driver on the Cherokee.
All in all I stayed with the 225 because of the cost involved. But if you want to replace basically the whole drive line and you have the money, go for it. Better to look for a odd fire Buick v-6 or a new Chevy v-6.
good morning all! i recently was given a running and driving 2000 jeep cherokee (XJ).
im wondering if this would be a good drivetrain to swap into the FC frame? most likely at a minimum i would have to fab motor mounts, or buy a universal set. its a 4.0 inline 6, and manual trans.
your guys thoughts?
I put a fuel injected 258 out of a 82 Cj7 into a 57 wagon and it worked great. 4.10 gears and 31x10.5" tires I can run up a 7% grade at 70 mph. The 4.0 has more power as long as it will fit into the spot. The FC 170 was built so you could put in a V8 so I would think it would fit there. Not sure about the FC150.
