Re: FC150 S4 diesel
I would really like to do the Kubota Diesel engine swap into a 150 and a CJ. Overland diesel make a kit to adapt them to the T90.
If you can import stuff from India, start with FC cab corners. You would find yourself rich in short order.
My initial thoughts on the diesel idea would be the noise level in the cab, and the weight on the front end and frame. I realize its been done but those two items would be concerns for me when considering this engine swap. If you do it, keep us posted on how it works out.
Thanks for the reply. In India the FCís built under license had some diesel engines in them, I was curious as to wether they needed adapter plates or wether the transmission bolted directly to the transmission. Everything in India is ridiculously cheap and I have a source, Iíve been importing parts for Royal Enfield motorcycles for years from India, motorcycles and side cars ..... so getting an engine in India (even rebuilt) would not be too hard. I have a Perkins S6 in my boat and have been maintaining it for years also, they are very simple and very reliable. My FC150 is going out of country for several years when Iím done so it doesnít necessarily need an american engine. The Perkins S4 was a good match for the T90 in India and Spain back in those years, if I went with a modern motor I would have to do drive train as well to take advantage of it .... road speed etc. In india the late model FC160 (FC150 USA) had disc brakes, very cheap to buy over there and still around. There are many options for our FC150ís in the states that are overlooked in India. What do you think ?
where are you going to find a perkins diesel?
i would seriously consider any other jeep swap into an FC. those motors are so old, parts are scarce, etc.
any standard GM engine is a better engine choice. parts availablity alone should be the deciding factor. try going to FLAPS and order a perkins engine part. my vote is a SBC motor. 4.3, or something thats been done before.
you can adapt that to a T90 readily. will it last to the HP? depends on the driver and his skinny pedal usage, i guess. but you may have a nightmare adapting an old diesel into an old truck.
Iím interested in putting a Perkins diesel in my FC150, do I need an adapter plate ? Mahindra used the Perkins in India so Iím hoping it bolts directly to the T90 transmission ? Thanks for any assist 👍
