Re: transfer case seals
Just screw the long sheet metal screw in 2 or 3 turns and leave lots hanging out to grab.
I use a center punch and knock a small starter hole in the flat metal of the seal, screw in a long sheet metal screw and pry against a block of wood or use vice grips or a slide hammer and pop the seal out. Sometimes it takes a couple of holes to do it. I don't drill the hole as I want to contain all the metal.
Mark from Wisconsin here. I am replacing the seals on both output shafts and shifter links on my 57 FC 170. No doubt there is a tool out there somewhere that will grab the seal and yank them out. Is there a recommended method to get the seals out without using the puller tool? O'Rileys or Advance have a rental tool that will do the job? or? I have a bunch of different dual arm and three arm gear pullers and could adapt if someone has a tried and true method.
