fuel level sender

I needed to replace an inoperable fuel sender on my 62 fc 170. I was told that some senders would not fit my tank. Not believing that is something they would change in such a short production run I purchased a 17724.06 and the irregularly spaced bolt holes misaligned the float so that it interfered with the tank side. I found that if I properly aligned the float and installed the front and rear bolt, I could see the direction in which the remaining 4 holes on the sender plate needed to be elongated approximately 1/8" to line up with the tank holes. I marked the direction, then elongated the holes with a chain saw file. With only 10 minutes effort the sending unit now fits. I installed hex head bolts because the round headed slotted screws were difficult to remove. Will keep you posted as to the electrical compatability.
