Only need to remove two bolts. One bolt on the housing (There are two holes, but only one lines up with the frame), and the squeeze clamp (called a trunnion ?) on the other side of the frame that clamps down the steering box.
: Hello all,
: Mark from Wisconsin here, 57 FC 170. Stock
: I have the front end off, inspecting and
: replacing tie rod ends, drag link ends,
: bearings, seals, sweeps, etc. Notice that
: there is some slop in the bell crank pivot
: as the shaft rocks slightly.
: Is the bearing a tapered bearing(s?) in the
: bell crank? can I adjust the slop out? If
: yes, quick how to would be great.
: Or, I am this far, just replace the bearings
: or the entire crank, have new ends and new
: pivot shaft. thoughts?
: I have not removed the drag link ends on the
: bell crank or selector shaft on the steering
: box yet. That next. What are the
: tolerances on the ends? They are balls,
: right? I can mike them, check for round and
: AND, what should I look for in the steering
: box? if there is as much slop in the box as
: there was in the whole front end....
: Thats all for now, thanks again for the
: great advise everyone?
