I too had no luck with the Solex carb, it was hard to start, lacked power, etc. I had an interesting experience with my Rambler, which also uses a Carter YF carb. It was flooding all the time through the venturi and accelerator pump nozzle. After a couple of needle and seat assemblies, trying every float level known to man, some severe head scratching and making sure the throttle body, float chamber and choke housing were square and flat, I replaced the accelerator pump diaghragm, which didn't come in my carb kit.
That fixed it. Near as I can figure, the diaghragm was porous and allowing fuel to be sucked through it into the bottom chamber of the accelerator pump. HTH, Craig Z.
