thanks much for your help
: Hi Pat:
: The torque spec for the large axle nut is
: 150 to 175 lbs. ft. I recommend this
: procedure, use a file to clean any burs from
: the wheel hub, axle and key slot and key.
: slide the wheel hub on the axle shaft lining
: up the key slot, push the hub on as far as
: you can by hand. Install the key with the
: tapered end in first and the taper facing
: the axle. Leave the key pocking out of the
: slot about a 1/4 inch. Install the large
: washer and axle nut. Torque as above, don't
: use the max torque at first as you may need
: to go a little more to line up the cotter
: pin slot, this is why there is a torque
: range. Allowing the washer to seat the key
: will make sure it seated at the correct
: depth and that the wheel hub and axle shaft
: are true to each other or you could actually
: get a wheel wobble and brake drum to shoe
: misalignment. Also if the key is installed
: before the hub and then the hub installed
: you will crack the key way in the hub at the
: inside of the hub where it is the thinnest.
: Hope this helps.
