It's totally legal now. I made the 10 mile trip to the DMV and got the plates. She picked out a set with "61" in it. It ran ok, kind of wanted to stall at a red light, but I can deal with that. I'm ready for the move now. They'll pick it up on Friday and it may be in Homewood Alabama as soon as Saturday.
