Blaine, that makes total sense. It was probably changed out after the serial number was installed. Mystery solved. No matter what, Bill has a cool new Jeep, the heaviest duty truck they made. Now he can install a mini rollback and haul his cool Tuxedo Park Mark IV anywhere he wants.

: Somewhere I heard that the dealer could
: install the 4 speed which means they put on
: a factory sticker when new.

: Steve,
:
: Here is a pic of the sticker. All of the
: blue paint in this truck is very consistent,
: and appears original.

:
:
: Looks like a decal to me. I will inspect
: closer tomorrow. Maybe someone grabbed the
: motor cover off the 4-speed truck and it
: happened to be the correct color.
:
: All of my other Jeeps have R up and to the
: left. What were they thinking doing it
: incorrectly like this? :-)

: Bill, If the shifting pattern sign looks
: more
: like a decal, then it's probably original.
: If it's more like a sticker (thicker
: material) then it's probably not. A lot of
: the original decals I've seen are scratched
: along the edges.
:
: It would be an unsolved mystery if the VIN
: says a 3 spd, and the decal says a 4 spd.
:
: I'm curious to see a photo of the decal.
:
: I can't speak from factory data, but I'm
: sure you could get any color scheme you
: ordered. I don't think it varied year to
: year. Most trucks I've seen are one color,
: which makes sense because there were mostly
: used for work, not play.
:
: So, if you're trying to restore the paint to
: an original scheme, there could have been
: many variations. Do what you think looks
: best in your eyes. I'm planning on painting
: my truck one color. But my personal
: preference for two-tone is white around the
: grill opening, and through the window area,
: with the base color on the roof. Here's a
: link to an FC-150 that is one of my
: favorites. It was Doug M's when the photo
: was taken.

:
: Be sure to use an "off white",
: instead of "refrigerator white".
: It looks too bright for my taste if you use
: a pure, bright white.
:
: If you want to get really artistic, you
: could develop a three tone pattern. I'm not
: artistic, so I will stick to one color on my
: truck.
:
: I would browse around the photo galleries on
: the FC Connection, and others, to get some
: ideas of the paint schemes you like.

: Thanks for the response, Steve!
:
: My suspicion is that this truck was
: originally a 3-spd, converted to 4-speed
: T-98. The motor cover has the original
: sticker showing the 4-spd pattern over what
: appears to be original paint. Somebody did
: a good job changing the sticker out I guess.
:
: The vin on the truck is 61568-13-10289.
: That middle 13 indicates a 3 speed trans I
: guess? I understand a "15" there
: would be a factory T-98. Title says it's a
: 1959.
:
: My preference would be to change the truck
: to a 2-tone paint scheme with the white
: around the interior and windows. I see
: some trucks where the roof is white, some
: with the body color also up on the top.
: Was there 2 different options for painting
: the rooftop, or does that change based on
: the year of the truck?

: That looks like a nice solid DRW. Good find!
: Maybe a previous owner replace the T-90 with
: a T-98? So, the 8,000 GVW on the tag might
: have been correct when new.
:
: It's hard to say about the blue wheels.
: There is no "always" with Willys.
: The early Willys "always" had red
: wheels, but I've learned that was not always
: accurate.
:
: There are enough seats out there, you will
: find a passenger seat, just keep looking.
: If you go to a roundup, someone might bring
: one for you.
:
: Definitely, start tearing into the engine.
: Who says men can't multi-task? (LOL.)
:
: I enjoyed the photos, thanks for sharing,

: Hi guys,
:
: I am not new to Willys, but just bought my
: first FC... it is a '59 FC-170 DRW 4-speed.
: I am very happy to have this FC, I have ben
: searching for a DRW truck for a while. The
: last one to come for sale (within reason)
: was 3 miles from my house, but the ad I
: found was 2 years old and the owner had it
: crushed by the time I called him. Bummer.
: My new truck's pic is attached below (if it
: works)
:
: Some interesting discoveries already:
:
: 1. This is a 4-speed truck and the GVWR on
: the tag (pass seat area) shows 8000 lbs.
: Shouldn't it be 9k?
: 2. The wheels are painted blue like the body
: and appear to be the original paint. I
: thought these were all black or white.
: Most seem to be white.
: 3. My truck is missing the passenger seat,
: so I am in the market for one of those.
:
: I hope to restore this thing as soon as my
: '65 Tuxedo Park CJ-5A is completed, but I
: will probably start tearing this one down in
: advance since the p.o. removed and
: disassembled the motor already.
:
: If the pic doesn't work, you can see my
: project pic and updates here:
