Bill, If the shifting pattern sign looks more like a decal, then it's probably original. If it's more like a sticker (thicker material) then it's probably not. A lot of the original decals I've seen are scratched along the edges.
It would be an unsolved mystery if the VIN says a 3 spd, and the decal says a 4 spd.
I'm curious to see a photo of the decal.
I can't speak from factory data, but I'm sure you could get any color scheme you ordered. I don't think it varied year to year. Most trucks I've seen are one color, which makes sense because there were mostly used for work, not play.
So, if you're trying to restore the paint to an original scheme, there could have been many variations. Do what you think looks best in your eyes. I'm planning on painting my truck one color. But my personal preference for two-tone is white around the grill opening, and through the window area, with the base color on the roof. Here's a link to an FC-150 that is one of my favorites. It was Doug M's when the photo was taken.

Be sure to use an "off white", instead of "refrigerator white". It looks too bright for my taste if you use a pure, bright white.
If you want to get really artistic, you could develop a three tone pattern. I'm not artistic, so I will stick to one color on my truck.
I would browse around the photo galleries on the FC Connection, and others, to get some ideas of the paint schemes you like.

: Thanks for the response, Steve!
:
: My suspicion is that this truck was
: originally a 3-spd, converted to 4-speed
: T-98. The motor cover has the original
: sticker showing the 4-spd pattern over what
: appears to be original paint. Somebody did
: a good job changing the sticker out I guess.
:
: The vin on the truck is 61568-13-10289.
: That middle 13 indicates a 3 speed trans I
: guess? I understand a "15" there
: would be a factory T-98. Title says it's a
: 1959.
:
: My preference would be to change the truck
: to a 2-tone paint scheme with the white
: around the interior and windows. I see
: some trucks where the roof is white, some
: with the body color also up on the top.
: Was there 2 different options for painting
: the rooftop, or does that change based on
: the year of the truck?

: That looks like a nice solid DRW. Good find!
: Maybe a previous owner replace the T-90 with
: a T-98? So, the 8,000 GVW on the tag might
: have been correct when new.
:
: It's hard to say about the blue wheels.
: There is no "always" with Willys.
: The early Willys "always" had red
: wheels, but I've learned that was not always
: accurate.
:
: There are enough seats out there, you will
: find a passenger seat, just keep looking.
: If you go to a roundup, someone might bring
: one for you.
:
: Definitely, start tearing into the engine.
: Who says men can't multi-task? (LOL.)
:
: I enjoyed the photos, thanks for sharing,

: Hi guys,
:
: I am not new to Willys, but just bought my
: first FC... it is a '59 FC-170 DRW 4-speed.
: I am very happy to have this FC, I have ben
: searching for a DRW truck for a while. The
: last one to come for sale (within reason)
: was 3 miles from my house, but the ad I
: found was 2 years old and the owner had it
: crushed by the time I called him. Bummer.
: My new truck's pic is attached below (if it
: works)
:
: Some interesting discoveries already:
:
: 1. This is a 4-speed truck and the GVWR on
: the tag (pass seat area) shows 8000 lbs.
: Shouldn't it be 9k?
: 2. The wheels are painted blue like the body
: and appear to be the original paint. I
: thought these were all black or white.
: Most seem to be white.
: 3. My truck is missing the passenger seat,
: so I am in the market for one of those.
:
: I hope to restore this thing as soon as my
: '65 Tuxedo Park CJ-5A is completed, but I
: will probably start tearing this one down in
: advance since the p.o. removed and
: disassembled the motor already.
:
: If the pic doesn't work, you can see my
: project pic and updates here:
