I had everything apart under there and found that there is no linkage slop. Some of the play is coming from Craig's block that fits onto my channel. It's not a tight fit. I can move the wiper from the outside and watch through the windshield that some play is in that block on the wiper motor. My Acorn nuts are nice and tight.

: Hi Gary,
: I said I would get back to you and I may
: have found an answer for you.
: It took me a while to find a problem with
: the wiper mechanism, everything on your
: truck is the same as my 4 door and my Van,
: the electric Motor conversion, I assume is
: the same, if you have Craig Brockhouse's
: Electric conversion motor, they aren't $100.
: On all of my trucks right and left are
: parking correctly and have exactly the same
: movement, they work equally the same with no
: slop all of the way equally across the
: windshield on either side. So here is a
: possible thing to look for, on the ends of
: the linkages on both ends they all have a
: great rubber mounted sleeve bushing, I
: pretty much ruled that out because they have
: no wear at the speed that they are used, and
: living here in the AZ oven, I have had no
: problem with the rubber in the bushings, the
: shaft ends can not be a problem because the
: wear factor on a shaft can not cause a
: problem, the inside arms are different the
: passengers side is 19" long and the
: drivers side is 24" so you could not
: have reversed them, next thing I checked is
: the channel for the wiper motor to make the
: movement, that is also made easy because
: before setting the motor the channel is
: marked top in the channel, it can only go
: into the channel one way because of the
: index slot. It is also not a problem of
: reversal of the shafts, because the wiper
: arms are parking to the inside, not the
: outside. So what else can it be?
: I remembered why I had to have the new
: splined acorn wiper arm mounting adapters
: made. So I found a used acorn and put it on
: a wiper shaft, it has a tiny bit of slop in
: the slot, against the shaft, it can rotate a
: tiny bit on the shaft. The new acorns have
: no slop, the acorns are made of aluminum. so
: I mounted the used one on my 4 door, and I
: had similar problems that you described,
: then I switched them a new acorn from the
: passenger side and the used one on the
: drivers side. Now the left one was not the
: same. It doesn't make sense how can a tiny
: bit of slop cause that much difference, it
: is because the length of the wiper arm and
: blade magnify what a little bit of slop at
: the shaft can be causing at the wiper arm.
: Next I went to the wiper arms at the blade
: connector, there are lots of wiper blades,
: but the problem is finding them. I have been
: using Trico blades, so I decided to try a
: 12" plastic China wiper arm and arm
: adapter, on the drivers side, and after my
: test results, I can say they miss a lot and
: they are not for an FC. I can tell you what
: a P.O.S.
: So my conclusion is this go Trico. I
: recently put together the pieces that Ben of
: CA was looking for, and I had told him that
: the Trico blade refills were still sold at
: the NAPA warehouse, I was driving by my
: local NAPA so good thing I checked, I asked
: the new guy that I had never seen on the
: counter for Trico classic 12" wiper
: refills, for Ben and decided to get a few
: for me. The guy at the counter says we don't
: have them any more. Next I asked him for
: Trico 12" wiper blades again, same
: answer we don't have them any more, NAPA
: doesn't have Trico products anymore.
: So I went to where the blades are on the
: rack and there they are in the book 57-64
: Jeep FC, he was correct they are not sold
: under the name Trico classic, they are now
: repackaged under the name of Napa Vintage
: with the same part number.
: I hope this is the ssolution / answer to
: your problem, I have the new Acorns.

: What it's doing is that I can move the
: passenger wiper about 4" (play) when
: the wipers are parked and the drivers side
: has about a 2" play. I have to
: investigate to see if bushings need
: replacing in the linkage bars. It's a pain
: in the arse to get under there to
: disassemble. ( Not much finger room).

: Just looking for a laugh. I wouldn never do
: either Gary.

: Not after I spent over $100.00 on a electric
: conversion. This Jeep has been restored.

: Oh just mount a single motor above the
: windshield!
: (see previous post)

: Anybody out there ever take the wiper
: linkage
: that is in the cab under the dash out? I
: found mine has a little slop to it. I was
: wondering if there is a way to tighten any
: of the connections on the linkage to make it
: tighter so that the left and right wiper
: arms work better together.
