The shift rods are on the wrong arm or the shift tubes are on the wrong arm on the trans, even if the trans arms would be upside down then that would still mean reverse would be on the left side but down instead of toward you and up.
Looking up from underneath, the arm on the shifter closest to the outside is 2nd and 3rd, the arm coset to the engine is forward and reverse, swap what you have and see what you get. Don't worry it can not be an internal trans issue.
I have another solution for this, it simply requires owning more than one FC to have the other as a reference.
