It would be period correct to have a Clown as the Driver, with a coil spring for a neck, imagine, after many, many years of driving one of these Tour Jeeps, always smiling, without showing fear, even while screaming passengers were looking down over the edge. Imagine being the driver, it starts to snow a little then a breeze of wind, imediately a blizzard, imagine coming back, looking for the edge of the road, when the white stuff hides where that edge actually is, it is a big drop over the side of the mountain trails, and then always with a smile, turning your head around to talk to passengers about how much fun everybody is having.

: I'm more of the belief that the bed stayed
: with the body & frame unless a tragic
: event occurred. Remember, they usually had
: 12 paying customers in the back at all
: times, so I don't think they got too crazy
: wheelin'-wise. The roads are fairly good
: out there. They?re more breathtaking than
: anything. I believe that they patched them
: up till the bitter end. The FC Tour Jeeps
: that San Juan Scenic Jeep Tours owned had a
: pretty short run for their company actually.
: But they did live 2nd lives elsewhere.
: Mine was their first one and it appeared in
: 1964. The earliest picture I have of yours
: is 1969. By the mid-70?s they were on the
: way out and the J-20?s ruled the trails.
: They ran V8?s, ¾ ton axles, adjustable
: pressure fuel pumps for the mountains, and
: had much better braking. The J-20?s are
: still in use today out there! My tour jeep
: stayed with its original frame for 50 years
: until I got a hold of it. Bottom line...
: You have an original bed and can recreate
: the rest. Please hold off on the bobbing
: clown head if you would! You might hit it
: on some of the rock outcroppings out there.
