It's fun upstaging the high dollar fancy cars with a basic vehicle. A couple months ago I took my Fiat 500 station wagon (unrestored but driveable) to an Italian car show and upstaged the Ferraris and Lambos.

: You've got that right Bruce. It's all about
: the enjoyment you get out of your project.
: A couple of Friday's ago we took the Tour
: Jeep up to a cruise that was held in a town
: close by. What they do is close down the
: main drag and open it up to classics and hot
: rods. Open headers and slicks are OK.
: People line the street and it's kind of a
: parade atmosphere. In the days of high
: dollar Camaro's, Mopar's, and now "Rat
: Rods,” our Tour Jeep was a crowd favorite!
: Every little kid looked at us in amazement
: and I replied with a friendly wave and a
: toot, toot of the horn. We gave rides all
: night. Many offered money for the ride but
: I told them that the pleasure was all mine.
: (Plus my insurance agent might frown on that
: idea) I had a guy come up to me with a high
: dollar '68 Camaro telling me he was tired of
: it because there were so many of them out
: there and wondering what the hell I was
: driving? Now remember, all FC’s have the
: same effect on people, restored or not. So
: get a wrenching on that project of yours and
: spread the word of the Forward Control Jeep
: phenomenon!

: Craig and Blaine, you're right on the mark
: from what I've seen. I know my 57 is my
: hobby and the time I spend on it is my
: relaxation. Listening to the ball game and
: drinking a few slow beers while i tinker
: with it is a pleasure and a great
: distraction. No rush, no pressure. Changing
: the plugs, wires, points, cap and rotor and
: it runs a 100% better. For me so simple and
: so satisfying. Consolidating the rust and
: sealing it a daunting task if not if taken a
: little at a time. Trying to get the gauges
: to work even with all the web help
: disappointing but not the end of the world.
: I finally ordered an after market cluster
: from Walch's. I'll keep the original and let
: the next person fix it if they wish. I just
: have a temporary stewardship of this object.
: But the stares from people when I'm driving
: are so great. I have to hold back a grin!
: The wonder in the eye's of children when
: they look at it, priceless for me. Owning
: something seemingly so odd but real. Knowing
: there are others with whom I can so easily
: communicate with who share my simple
: pleasures. No money could buy those
: experiences. I'm happy.

: My honest answer is probably not. Not that
: there isn't buyers out there, there might
: be, but in mine mind it would have to be an
: exceptional vehicle. Forget Barrett or
: Russo & Steele. That FC-170 has been on
: Ebay three times now with no bids or even an
: offer. Again this is only my opinion, but
: there is no money to be made restoring and
: selling FC trucks. You have to want to
: restore your vehicle for the love of it as
: it surely will cost more to restore then
: it's final value.
