Yes if I was running running a 134 I wouldn't change the axle ratio, it does need the the 5:38's to maintain the proper torque. My '57 ('59 frame and axles) has a 4.3 V-6 backed with a turbo 400 and a T-18. Tires are 31-10.50's but they measure 29". I think that should still give me enough power.
My '59 still has 5:38's it has a 225 V6 odd-fire, T90 and a overdrive. Longer uphill grades do bog it down in overdrive but in direct drive you can't stop it.
So yes if your running a 134 rethink changing the axle ratio.
